Dr. Mike is one of the founders and co-owners of Humphrey, Giacopuzzi & Associates. He grew up locally on a dairy farm in Ventura County and graduated veterinary school from the University of California, Davis in 1980. After graduation he came to work with Dr. Weden Humphrey and bought the practice in 1983. Dr. Mike specializes in general surgery and lameness. He is very active in the local 4-H program, serves every year as the veterinarian for the Ventura County Fair and is a member of the Rancheros Vistadores.
Dr. Richard is a co-owner of Humphrey, Giacopuzzi & Associates. He grew up in Conoga Park where he was raised in a ranching and dairy family. Before veterinary school he worked as a racetrack groom where his interest in equine practice was further developed. He graduated veterinary school from the University of California, Davis in 1979 and came to work here in Ventura County. Dr. Richard specializes in full service reproductive services. He is one of the most respected doctors in the area in the reproduction field. When not working, Dr. Richard is active in his church, listens to and plays bluegrass music and collects vintage guitars.
Dr. Hannah Klasson graduated from the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine and joined the practice as an intern in 2012, and as an associate in 2013. Her professional interests include: internal medicine, theriogenology and neonatology, as well as wellness and preventative medicine. She completed the Chi Institute’s Equine Acupuncture course and began offering this a as a regular service at HGAE in 2014. Outside of work, Dr. Klasson enjoys riding her horse and traveling.
Dr. Rachel Picarro graduated from Michigan State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2018 and just recently joined the practice as an intern. She grew up in San Diego, CA and first developed her passion for horses while taking lessons at a hunter/jumper barn. Her professional interests include internal medicine and theriogenology. Outside of work, Dr. Picarro enjoys pilates, experimenting with new recipes, and spending time with her friends and family, which includes her 19-year-old cat Smokey.
Bex came to HGAE last year after working in several large clinics including Virginia Tech’s Equine Hospital and Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington Kentucky. When she’s not saving foals at HGAE, Bex likes stand-up paddle boarding and walks on the beach with her husband Josh and their dog Kydon.
April joined the team in January 2013 and has quickly risen to the status of super tech! April not only works as a hospital technician, but also assist as a surgical tech, AND manages the clinics laboratory equipment. She graduated from Cal Poly with a degree in Animal Science and enjoys hiking, surfing, and cooking. April’s cakes are pretty enough to be on the Food Network… and April DEFINTIELY gives Dr. Richard a run for his money in the baking department.
Amy began volunteering at HGAE in January 2016 while attending Mount San Antonio College. She also served as captain of the english and western riding teams. Amy graduated in 2016 with a degree in science. She enjoys riding her horse Snowman and hiking with her chihuahua.
Sharon has been with the clinic since 1996. She is an extremely exerienced techinician and heads up HGAE’s anesthesia services. When not helping out with surgeries, Sharon can be found roping with her husband Norm at their ranch in Moorpark.
Colleen has been riding and working around horses her entire life, competing on the hunter/jumper circuit with her horse Silver Lining. She is a recent graduate of California Lutheran University with a degree in accounting and plans to pursue her CPA license with the state of California.
